Our
architectural environment affects us all,
none more so than the environment in which
we spend most of time, our homes.
Whether you just need more space in your
existing home or are planning something more
ambitious, I can help. As an architect specialising
in all forms of extension, refurbishment,
loft conversion and new build residential
architecture, my skills lie in the ability
to unlock the potential of your home, or to
realise your ideas for a new building.
Whilst my design principles of sustainability
and low energy use, craftsmanship and “delight”
are common throughout my work, I do not have
a strict style which I seek to impose on each
project, but rather allow the existing building,
context and client to inform the aesthetic
direction, channelled and filtered by my own
experience and convictions. For me the most
successful designs result in spaces which
are full of natural light, are constructed
of honest materials, and have a simplicity
and elegance of form. Sustainable materials
and methods, and minimal use of water and
energy are also vital to me.
Each
project is unique, but my approach to the
design process is however always the same,
regardless of scale. It starts by listening
to the client to find out their aspirations
and understanding their needs, hopes and dreams
for the project. The design process is then
an evolutionary one between architect and
client to resolve the design, by exploring
all design opportunities, to arrive at a solution
which hopefully surpasses original expectations,
yet maintains a close eye on the budget.
Your home is probably your most valuable asset,
and as such any major work should be carefully
designed in order to complement the building,
enhance the value of the property and improve
the quality of life for the occupants. As
an architect specialising in domestic architecture
I have the design expertise to create solutions
that achieve all this, aswell as having the
knowledge to steer through the increasingly
complex minefield of planning and building
regulations, and the experience of running
building contracts and dealing with builders
on site
I
understand that the residential client often
has a limited budget, so my rates are affordable.
My initial one hour visit is free of charge,
and any following work can be on a lump sum
or hourly rate basis, to suit your requirements.
I can be appointed for a small section of
work, for instance a planning application,
or the whole process from initial ideas through
to completion on site - how much is up to
you. I’m even happy to visit you at
home in the evening or at weekends to discuss
your project, and develop your ideas further.
